Re-instatement Application (AMDRAS Standards)

Application to reinstate a lapsed National Accreditation. Please ensure you are logged in before completing this form. You may need to create a new log in.

What you need to know:

  • to be eligible for re-instatement you must provide evidence that you have previously been Nationally Accredited as a Mediator in Australia (NMAS / AMDRAS)
  • Mediation Institute is a Recognised Accreditation Provider (RAP) under AMDRAS and is applying AMDRAS provisions (See AMDARAS Section 57) Key Forms, Documents & Guidelines - AMDRAS
  • You must provide evidence that you meet the requirements to be eligible for reinstatement.

 If you don't meet the renewal requirements

Shortfall - mediation experience and/or professional development 

Where the practice requirement in Section 3.2 or Section 3.3 has not been met you'll need to undertake supplementary practical training, coaching and/or assessment, to make up the shortfall and ensure that you are still competent. 

If you have conditions on your accreditation

If  you had any conditions imposed at the time of suspension or grant of a period of leave of absence have been met prior to seeking re-instatement.  

When will the reinstatement start?

Accreditation will be re-instated from the date upon which we determine that you have satisfied the requirements for re-accreditation. 

Re-instatement of accreditation in terms of Section 6.2 cannot be granted more than once in every four years.

The National Mediator Accreditation System (NMAS) will be phased out and replaced by the Australian Mediator and Dispute Resolution Accreditation Standards (AMDRAS) between 1.7.2024 and 30.6.2025 with extensions permitted for people who commence training during this transition period.

This application is for people applying for reinstatement of accreditation as a mediator under the AMDRAS standards who were previously accredited, but that accreditation has lapsed or been cancelled.

Our Accredited Mediator NMAS / AMDRAS Membership includes Practitioner Membership, and you can also apply for membership as an FDR Practitioner or FGC Facilitator, which can be included at no extra fee if you are eligible.

To reinstate your accreditation, you must meet the renewal requirements for national accreditation under AMDRAS or undertake supplementary Training and Assessment.

  • Practice Hours 
    • 20 hours over the preceding 2 hours (this can include up to 5 hours of pre-mediation and up to 5 hours of observing a more experienced practitioner) 
  • Professional Development 
    • 25 hours of Mediator related CPD - find out more 
  • Conditions Imposed 
    • Evidence of meeting any conditions imposed on your accreditation

  • Structured Peer-Based Reflection (7 hours)
  • Professional Supervision or Coaching (8 hours)
  • Providing Professional Development (15 hours)
  • Related Professional CPD (5 hours)
  • Role Playing in Dispute Resolution Training (4 hours)
  • Self-Directed learning (5 hours) 
  • Publications or Research Participation (8 hours, max 4 hours per activity)
  • Other (5 hours)

  • Disqualification from any professional practice
  • Criminal Convictions
  • An impairment that could influence your capacity to discharge your obligations in a competent, honest and professional manner
  • If you believe that you are unable to comply with the code of ethics

By submitting this application for Mediator Accreditation Practitioner Membership, you authorise Mediation Institute to seek information from any party noted on your application and/or supporting documents or an authorised representative of the Mediator Standards Board and/or the Attorney General's Practitioner Registration Department (if relevant).


The AMDRAS Standards require you to meet the application for accreditation requirements including evidence of good character.

This can be statements from two (2) people who have known you for three (3) years or more who believe you are of good character.

We can consider alternative evidence if you have recently passed good character requirements in a different profession.

By authorising Mediation Institute (Mi) to act as your independent complaint handling service you authorise Mi to notify the Attorney-Generals Practitioner Registration Department if a substantiated complaint is made against you that requires disciplinary action and/or to notify them of other changes that may affect your registration as a FDR Practitioner.


Our team will review your application and contact you if they require any additional information. Once your application is complete an invoice will be issued and upon payment your membership will be finalised.

The current fee for Mediator Accreditation NMAS / AMDRAS including Practitioner Membership for two years is $480
